Located on Pennsylvania Avenue, the hotel would boast 270 rooms and presidential suites complete with bulletproof windows. Construction will begin early next year and is anticipated to be completed in 2015.
Good for tourism
Mayor Vincent Gray of Washington D.C.stated that there is a shortage of hotels in downtown D.C. in spite ofhaving a number of museums, notable landmarks, and federal structures to draw professionals and tourists alike.
He further stated that the hotel will help “us to define what the hotel industry, what the hospitality industry will be on this side of Pennsylvania Avenue.”
Washington D.C.’s old Post Office was built in 1899. It has since been a source of concern among politicians and activists. There have been numerous efforts to demolish it in the past.Currently, it houses a few shops and fast food restaurants.
